When the pandemic locked people inside, Buffalo Games saw an unprecedented spike in demand for its puzzles. But just as demand was taking off, the company's Buffalo, NY factory was shut down under New York State COVID-19 mandate. As the largest manufacturer of puzzles in North America, the company had to get creative. First, Buffalo Games sourced from overseas and then ramped up manufacturing stateside when the factory was able to reopen in May. Since May, the company has doubled production, now making 2 million puzzles a month. Business Insider visits the factory to see how Buffalo Games did it.

  • Did not know that any puzzles were still made in USA. Will check next time I buy the grandkids some puzzles. It makes my blood boil when my dear wife buys me a beaitifull $6 or 7 dollar Christmas, Anniversary or birthday card and they are made in virus spreading china. Beg her to go to the dollar store and purchas a made in USA card for a buck. She watches me turn every card over to see country of origin before reading the card. Thank you.

  • I do at least one 2000 piece puzzles a month. My son gave me a subscription to the Buffalo Puzzle of the Month. It's great fun. It's great to see how much effort they put into making sure all the pieces are there. My question is: many of our recent puzzles have come with extra pieces, in a few cases not duplicates, but from some other puzzle. All of our puzzles have been complete. Mysterious.

  • Not True! The completed puzzle WILL NOT hold if lifted up in the air to view, at least the 1,000 I made. Mine had way too many wrinkled pieces, some w opened edges, but overall, the print is beautiful, each piece is a perfect fit and had NO missing pieces. I like fixing things, so a small brush of white glue fix the problem. It is not a deal breaker, I like the texture and feel of the pieces. The cardboard is fresh, and providing a poster is a plus. I just wish their puzzles would arrive on a ziplock bag and the box had a tamper seal, not hot glue as it rips the box when trying to open it.

  • One thing that might make a puzzle fantastic gift would be to custom print someone's photograph onto a blank since cutting is more a matter of sizing it to the board and it's already done on canvas that you can order online. Imagine the surprise they'd have beginning a puzzle that seemed oddly familiar as it began to show the car they once owned or a beloved pet from long ago looking back at them and it would be especially good for seniors since it would trigger memories as it was built. Indeed if they could charge 15/25$ per puzzle depending on size it would be a best seller since most that you buy are of places/art that you'll likely never see. One alternative would be to send a printable blank that you could take take to a local printer or do it at home since it would be even more flexible/fun to create it yourself so that Holiday photo or of family outing they treasure would be a unique Momento as much as the memory it recalled....
