The COVID-19 crisis is changing the way future Coastguardsmen are trained at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, NJ. According to the Training Center's Commanding Officer Capt. Kathy Felger, there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the Training Center. Due to the crisis, the Coast Guard has implemented a 14-day "Restriction of Movement" period for incoming recruits. After that, they resume their remaining six weeks of training, but with physical distancing implemented into various aspects of training and life at the training center. All visitors are prohibited from attending graduation ceremonies, but the events are streamed live online.

    • Funny how a branch under DHS has a way tougher bootcamp (based on research and polls of people who switched branches) than the airforce and the navy. Not to mention, you actually have better chances getting in every other branch because to get in the coast guard u would really and actually have to study. They are the pickiest and have the highest scores that is required to even get in to their programs.

  • This is a virus. I am disappointed with the coast guard for not looking into this more. This virus has a 99.5% survival rate. I get the CDC determines that this is "necessary" but EVERY man and woman of the coast swore to defend this country from harm from both foreign AND domestic enemies. RIGHT NOW we are at war with domestic enemies trying to tear down the very fabric that this nation was built on. Those masks are doing more harm to our future coasties then the virus itself. They need to be able to interact with people in close encounters to help build team bonds and become stronger. Not have separation in the core of the coast guard. Please please please. Look into these matters deeper. Not accept what someone has told you. I pray for this nation.
