Toms went from being valued at $625 million to having massive debt. Blake Mycoskie started the company to help people with its "One for One" donation model. However, Toms had trouble growing beyond its original product and branding.

The Rise And Fall Of Toms

  • The idea for the brand was misguided but meant well, the problem for me was just that the shoes kinda sucked for the price

  • Not surprising there was no economic moat. Lots of other companies copied tom's design and sold it for half the cost.

  • Bruhh those shoes wouldn't last longer than a week for a kid running around on a dirt road digging for gold in there nasal cavity

  • Tom shoes don’t last the normal shoes lifespans. The joke is they claimed they donate shoes to the third world countries who need a lot stronger shoes. I once joke about Tom needs to partner with Nike because the people there need shoes that they can use for a lot of walking and last. They do have cute designs but that about it. I got pair of Bobs, those really long last even couple years of wearing daily, they still look very good.

  • The truth is, those shoes were not comfortable to wear in a city, because the feet was pretty much physically on the ground, harsh in city streets, I assume for "softer" grounds it surely suits better. So that's another reason...

  • Well if you think worth the price. Look at Crocs. A real low price to make and a high price to pay and they look terrible.

  • I loved my toms but they fell apart so easily. Soles came off, got holes easily, and would smell pretty bad if you didn’t wear socks. My feet barely sweat and don’t smell. Only shoes I ever owned that held a smell like that. We’re ridiculously comfy I could sleep in them but they’re shit quality. Only ever bought one pair for a reason.

  • Amazing Video. Bitcoin has faced a rather strong resistance after its explosion to the $11,100 highs. At the recent lows, the asset traded as low as $10,300 - around 8% ish below the local highs couple of weeks back. Despite this slight slip and the fact that BTC remains above $14,000, we should all remain bullish on Bitcoin. I think bitcoin could soon move higher to $20,000 in a couple of days. As a crypto trader the past few weeks has recorded immerse benefits all round,,, my only regret now is not knowing Mr taylor on time, his top notch signals remains the bedrock of the successes recorded in my personal trading portfolio. his trading technics helps me get my profit... i already made $100k with his. investing on cryptocurrencies is now the new source of income for everyone he continues to be an inspiration to all who have been fortunate to have made use of his signals. You all can reach out to him through morgantaylor587@gmail.com or on WhatsApp +1 409 299 3921

  • Just come to Argentina and buy an actual pair of Alpargatas, they are like $ 5. And they are actually Argentinian, not like that ones with a fake Argentinian flag

    Bárbara BoriniBárbara BoriniPrieš 13 dienų
  • So a North American company stole the desing of the shoe that was created in Argentina and we been using for decades, put an Argentina flag on their product when they are not made in Argentina, and sold them around the world like it was their idea 🙄 taking the credit away from the actual Argentinian Alpargatas companys.

  • I hope Toms doesn't go anywhere. These are the most comfortable shoes, and many of my co-workers wear them. As teachers, we are always on our feet and require shoes that can be worn with a variety of casual and professional outfits, and the variety and style of these surprisingly lends itself to both. You wouldn't think they would be as comfortable as they are since they're rather flat and don't come with fancy padding, but even as someone who has had to deal with plantar fasciitis in the past, I can wear these all day without any discomfort. The one down-side is that the canvas uppers are not as durable as leather or synthetic materials. I have to buy a new black pair (my most used pair) each year after holes appear at the heel and toe area.

  • Tom's never made any sense to me. Why would I spend $50-$70 on a pair of cheap shoes to give one pair to one poor kid ? I'm paying a lot of money for overpriced cheap shoes. Why not just spend the same money and give shoes to 5 or 6 kids ? The guy's heart is in the right place but he needed to think it through more.

  • I have purchases ziz pairs of Tom'a alparagatas in the past 8 months and I am preparing to buy at least 4 more pairs before the end of the year. I wear them almost exclusively. I think they are beautiful in their simplicity. I prefer the white sole type. They do not hurt my feet. They in fact provide exercise for my feet. They are stylish. I do not buy other varieties. I stick with the original. I was very unhappy to learn they has financial difficulties and elated when they were given a cash infusion to keep the company going. I think you should include in your marketing the hip boomers who don't gush over Jimmie Choos, but positively salivate over Tom's alparagatas. And who will now purchase Tom's sunglasses. 😎
