The Rise Of $12 Salads

  • Whole Panera bread salads are also kind of expensive, about $11.50 for a whole one, but they’re so delicious and they put a lot of stuff in it. I don’t know what goes into that Green Goddess dressing but it’s good, and I am NOT a salad person. Are Sweetgreen salads even good?

  • This is the perfect example of the corporate culture. Why can't people make the salad at home? It's simple and cheap if they can. The problem will arise when individuals depend on food chains. That's why they are charging exorbitantly.

  • Amazing Video. Bitcoin has faced a rather strong resistance after its explosion to the $11,100 highs. At the recent lows, the asset traded as low as $10,300 - around 8% ish below the local highs couple of weeks back. Despite this slight slip and the fact that BTC remains above $14,000, we should all remain bullish on Bitcoin. I think bitcoin could soon move higher to $20,000 in a couple of days. As a crypto trader the past few weeks has recorded immerse benefits all round,,, my only regret now is not knowing Mr taylor on time, his top notch signals remains the bedrock of the successes recorded in my personal trading portfolio. his trading technics helps me get my profit... i already made $100k with his. investing on cryptocurrencies is now the new source of income for everyone he continues to be an inspiration to all who have been fortunate to have made use of his signals. You all can reach out to him through or on WhatsApp +1 409 299 3921

  • This makes me sad for this place called Zoom Kitchen-a chain of 2-3 restaurants where the staff would make a spinning salad (?) in front of you. They offered ingredients that I hadn’t seen in salads before, like jicama or grilled sweet potatoes, or roasted beets. The chain went out of business in the early 2000s, if I remember right. It’s a shame-it was an awesome place to get a good meal. They didn’t just sell salads, either. They stood other stuff, too, but the salad line was cool.

  • Lol so the point of this video is that a Business Insider producer realized how much they spend on lunch at sweet greens? The privilege is strong with this one. There are plenty of other places that serve salads for much cheaper than sweet greens. SG seems to only be located in rich/financial areas and cater to people with access to such areas. Why would they give a shit about the food desserts in poorer neighborhoods?

  • In 2013, I lived and worked in a part of Brooklyn that was both struggling economically but also getting gentrified with hipsters. There was a huge mosque on one street, with a large African/Muslim cafeteria self-service cafe next to it. Across the street was line of fast food chains (Popeyes, McDonalds, BK, KFC). The African cafeteria had fresh tasty organic meats (lamb, beef, fish, no pork of course), vegetables and fruits and if you weighed your plate carefully, you could get a great balanced meal for $7/$8. I ate there everyday. But I thought it disconcerting to see that the cafeteria clientele was mostly just the Muslim population and upper-middle-class White Hipsters. While across the street, the mostly Black and Latino population were in fact paying MORE money for msg laced unhealthy fast food. When I remarked this to the owner (who was from Senegal), he said a lot of the locals felt his cafe was too "exotic". Fresh salad is Exotic?!?!??

  • I think in life we get what we pay for. If you look at sweetgreens ingredients everything is locally sourced, like farm to table fresh. They get their ingredients very fresh and support local farms. All their ingredients seem highly nutrient dense, like chock full of antioxidants, fiber, vitamin, phytonutrients. The people who eat there probably are very health conscious and prioritize their diet. You are paying 12 dollars but the quality seems very high. I always remember this one bulb of garlic I got from whole foods that was twice the price of my regular grocery store. It was organic but super pricey. But when I was cooking with it the garlic, I swear to God, peeled off easier, the garlic was juicier, and the garlic stayed juicy and fresh a lot longer whereas I expected it to dry out and get hard. So it obviously was a much higher quality and it deserved the price charged. Yes I feel these products are worth the money, you are not getting ripped off because you are getting MORE for paying MORE.

In Italy you can only find super simple salads with only olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper were the only condiment options. By the time you finish eating some of these shown you might as well have just eaten a burger and paid less money 😅

They don't have fancy ingredients like wild rice, sweet potato, or goat cheese, but they have most of the staples for a great salad; olives, peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, onions, cranberry, nuts, cheeses, beets, carrots, eggs, meats, avocado, all that. And 10 different salad dressings to choose from. You can't go wrong. It might not be organic, but its still a full salad meal with everything you need, and it ain't $12.
