The Truth Behind Italy's $1 Homes

Starting in early 2019, 20 towns across Italy began selling homes for €1, or about $1.10. Local governments hope the plan will attract fresh faces and new businesses to towns that have been suffering from rapid depopulation and a growing number of abandoned homes for decades. But the true cost of these homes turn out to be much higher than $1.

I would love to buy one of these homes, I love living in small towns and the thought of moving to a city is just something I shall never be able to wrap my head around.

  • In Italy the cost of the houses is at lower level since decades due to reduction of population. People leave house in the south to go in the North to study or to work . There are big opportunities for foreign people who really want to live in italy where the living cost are cheap , the quality of life is high . Not necessary to purchase house for 1$ that need to be restored . You could purchase good and new adpadtmants 5 minute from sea in Sardinia , build in 2010 , for less then 55000 euros . If you need write me to I will be happy to assist you for free. Or for a chalet with farm in a country village in the south ..60000 euros

  • Amazing Video. Bitcoin has faced a rather strong resistance after its explosion to the $11,100 highs. At the recent lows, the asset traded as low as $10,300 - around 8% ish below the local highs couple of weeks back. Despite this slight slip and the fact that BTC remains above $14,000, we should all remain bullish on Bitcoin. I think bitcoin could soon move higher to $20,000 in a couple of days. As a crypto trader the past few weeks has recorded immerse benefits all round, my only regret now is not knowing Mr taylor on time, his top notch signals remains the bedrock of the successes recorded in my personal trading portfolio. his trading technics helps me get my profit... i already made $100k with his. investing on cryptocurrencies is now the new source of income for everyone he continues to be an inspiration to all who have been fortunate to have made use of his signals. You all can reach out to him through or on WhatsApp +1 409 299 3921

  • The reality of this piece is not that the Italians are giving away property for a Euro or that people actually think they are going to get a house for that, it's that Business Insider has a really good click bait story, that's what brought me here. Let's not forget who's pulling the strings on this story.

  • Wait. Everyone making fun of them complaining isn’t seeing the real problem here. These people basically got ripped. Like the video said, most of these houses weren’t sold for an euro. And on top of that, they had to pay for security deposit. I’d be fine if I bought it and left it in my testament to my children, so they could just do whatever with it. But for almost 23 000 aprox dollars, I could buy a small apartment on a beautiful city on another country. I mean, if you want that house in that location, ok; it’s still cheaper than other houses. After you put a bit of work on it. But if it’s not and you were looking for a new place to call yours in another place... then there’s other options.

  • Any building/renovations in Italy will be about 25% more expensive than in suburban USA. Most of these homes would be condemned here - so beware- they are not always habitable so when you are working on it you may have to stay somewhere else. The scope of work for many of these is huge - the homes need everything. It cost Elaine Braccio (actress) about $250,000. Yes costs can vary but mama mia this is a lot of work and worry. You need to know what you are doing. My cousin built a home from scratch in northern Italy - big big money but at least it is fully functional and up to date.

  • The cost of deposit, repair, renovation and travel would be equivalent to buying new home here. Also there is no proper infrastructure to support primary agendas. If their main goal is to repopulate and have economic growth then there should be framework to support it. Else it's just a gimmick and will turn out to be just wealth expansion for only rich people who can afford to renovate and deposit amount and it's maintenance
