What It Takes To Be An Air Traffic Controller At The World's Busiest Airport

Air traffic controllers at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport are in charge of 909,431 takeoffs and landings at the world's busiest airport (in a normal year). But the job isn't easy. Not only are lives on the line, but any mistake at Atlanta could cause a ripple effect of delays across the country and the world. Pre-pandemic, Business Insider went up inside America's tallest air traffic control tower to learn what it takes to be one of 58 air traffic controllers here.
Correction: The video incorrectly states that Atlanta tower directed 190,000 flights in 2019. The accurate number is 909,431 flights in 2019.

  • I really appreciate this video, thank you for uploading it! I haven't taken too much thought into Air Traffic Control and all the working pieces that have to be so precise in order to get a plane to the ground and off the ground (plus needing to have times be as efficient as possible for the sake of many other people's jobs/lives) There should be a holiday for Air Traffic Controllers and other extremely important jobs like it that aren't as recognized. I want these guys to not develop anxiety or health issues. ;;;

  • Amazing Video. Bitcoin has faced a rather strong resistance after its explosion to the $11,100 highs. At the recent lows, the asset traded as low as $10,300 - around 8% ish below the local highs couple of weeks back. Despite this slight slip and the fact that BTC remains above $14,000, we should all remain bullish on Bitcoin. I think bitcoin could soon move higher to $20,000 in a couple of days. As a crypto trader the past few weeks has recorded immerse benefits all round, my only regret now is not knowing Mr taylor on time, his top notch signals remains the bedrock of the successes recorded in my personal trading portfolio. his trading technics helps me get my profit. i already made $100k with his. investing on cryptocurrencies is now the new source of income for everyone he continues to be an inspiration to all who have been fortunate to have made use of his signals.You all can reach out to him through morgantaylor587@gmail.com or on WhatsApp +1 409 299 3921

  • Taxiway "Dixie" WTF. D is DELTA. I don't even want to know what they say for N down there.

    mdo686mdo686Prieš 14 dienų
    • @mdo686 Go ahead, tell experienced controllers how they should work. Phraseology is about efficiency and intelligibility and has no place for your political correctness. Try controlling ground with four runways with half the planes having a similar callsign and appearance. Atlanta is a Delta Airlines base, not other airports. Add the D taxiways, the potential german registrations, and any monitoring pilot hearing "Delta" on frequency might think they're being called by the controller. In short, stop trying to act smart. Everyone know it's usually "Delta", you're not teaching anyone anything.

      San AntonioSan AntonioPrieš 13 dienų
    • @San Antonio Because they want to remind themselves of their traitorous history? Oh I see you're saying Delta Airlines pilots are too stupid to tell the difference between their call sign and a taxiway......yet they somehow manage at every other airport in the world?

      mdo686mdo686Prieš 13 dienų
    • Try to connect the few neurons of your brain that haven't yet melted because of political correctness and figure out why they don't say "Delta" for D in a certain airline's main base.

People escape extreme flood levels on their roofs waiting to be rescued. 550 evacuation centers filled with over 40000 families. They need food, medicine and clothes. I am initiating a campaign called Together We Rise! Typhoon Vamco & Goni Relief. I know this is irrelevant to the video but I really seek your support to help the victims of the catastrophic events that are happening right now in the Philippines. gogetfunding.com/togetherwerise/ #reliefph
