Why Congress' Own Economists Predict 15 Million Unemployed In 2021

While President Donald Trump says the economy will take off like a rocket when social-distancing guidelines end, the Congressional Budget Office estimates an unemployment rate of 9% at the end of 2021. In fact, economists think the US might already be at 15% unemployment. With parts of the economy like restaurants, sporting events, movie theaters, and concerts unlikely to be able to go back to 100% capacity for months or longer, it may be hard to bring the unemployment level back down to full employment rapidly.

Why Congress' Own Economists Predict 15 Million Unemployed In 2021

  • Amazing Video. Bitcoin has faced a rather strong resistance after its explosion to the $11,100 highs. At the recent lows, the asset traded as low as $10,300 - around 8% ish below the local highs couple of weeks back. Despite this slight slip and the fact that BTC remains above $14,000, we should all remain bullish on Bitcoin. I think bitcoin could soon move higher to $20,000 in a couple of days. As a crypto trader the past few weeks has recorded immerse benefits all round,,, my only regret now is not knowing Mr taylor on time, his top notch signals remains the bedrock of the successes recorded in my personal trading portfolio. his trading technics helps me get my profit... i already made $100k with his. investing on cryptocurrencies is now the new source of income for everyone he continues to be an inspiration to all who have been fortunate to have made use of his signals. You all can reach out to him through morgantaylor587@gmail.com or on WhatsApp +1 409 299 3921

  • So we had a good economy under Clinton then Bushes destroyed it. Obama took office and had to clean up the mess and almost did it in eight years but had 60 years worth of mess to clean up..now in a month we've lost a decade worth of job growth and 30 million people are unemployed. God bless America.

  • Tourism to the US will suffer for years. The White House has recklessly mismanaged their outbreak from the beginning. I know lots of people that have either stopped travel to the US or seriously reduced the number of trips. The world is watching.forcing nonessential people back to work during a pandemic. I would feel safer in Europe at this point. It seems that many politicians in Europe have taken responsibility for their outbreaks.

  • I don't meant to sound like an optimist, but this downturn was not created by bad market fundamentals, like the great recession (real estate, CDO problems, etc.), but rather by exogenous international factors. I'm sure there will be more unemployment in Q3 and Q4, but likely not as bad as was witnessed during the great recession. I hate fear mongering.

  • Yes, THIS!! People be pushing to reopen the economy. But even if businesses are *allowed* to reopen, that doesn't mean people are going to spend money going out like they did before this pandemic hit. Whether businesses are allowed to open or not, the economy is going to be really stagnant for a while, because people in general will *want* to stay home in order to stay safe. That's what Trump and a lot of Repubs don't understand.

America was late to react, and still is doing the least to fight this while everyone that is fighting it is saying trump had much more power to stop this and chose to not use it. The first case was reported on Jan, 19th. If they had ruled with an iron fist, the curve would have been flattened by now. China's first case was in Nov, and they are back in business for almost a month now. If we look at the curve, US is at 1/3 of the journey -- meaning even if everyone gives a crap, the shit show won't be over until the end of June.

I don’t doubt that someone (and recently for that matter) has named the 2008/9 recession the “Great Recession” despite the fact that proportionally it had a similar effect in percentile terms to its many... many predecessors. Currently the Media are taking advantage of the term and in a somewhat nefarious way attempting to create unnecessary panic amongst lay people who would obviously have no other recourse but to confuse it with the Great Depression - an event which scarred the entire world’s population for a generation. A generation which is to some extent still alive and being worst effected by Covid 19.

Many of the businesses will simply be out of business and it will take time for people who still have resources to invest in new businesses to occupy the market niche, meanwhile people will be unemployed and without the pandemic emergency benefits. Also keep in mind that any new businesses will make better use of automation, for example the oil price collapse of 2013 resulted in the closing of many drilling rigs which employed 30 operators per rig on average, when drilling restarted new equipment was deployed using two operators per rig.

      Jackson McNeilJackson McNeilPrieš 7 mėnesių
    • Sure blame it on China. Why can South Korea and Taiwan react and handle the situation despite the " cover up " while the " world's greatest country " the US can't? It's because we were too busy blaming china, playing politics and laying back while the virus spreads. When China and South Korea were fighting the virus hard, there were only 10 cases here and we freaking slept on it. We were complacent and relaxed because we underestimated it. Then when it got worse we had to find a scapegoat because hey it's never our fault it's china, or Iran or Russia. End of the day, always another country to blame but never us. People like you disgust me. This is why our country is sinking because there's no accountability. Oh yeah it's not the federal government's fault it's China's fault. So what do we do? We send china a bill? WTF? Address the problem. The problem is that we were complacent. The CDC got its budget cut, the pandemic department Obama set up is scrapped, foreign pandemic ambassadors to china were withdrawn, all these were done by us. We did that shit. And now you want to blame china?
